The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $187 a month against your solar payment of $134.24 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.90% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Commonwealth Edison rates are moving. The summer 2026 ComEd power price of 10.399 cents a kWh is about 50 percent higher than it was two years earlier, and the supply rate rose again on June 1, 2026. On top of that, the Illinois Commerce Commission approved a $606 million ComEd delivery rate increase effective January 2025 and a further $243 million delivery increase in December 2025. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
